Welcome to Island Kids

We are delighted that you have shown an interest in our Island Kids program. We hope that you join us in one or more of our activities, and we are sure you'll find that they are fun, interesting and beneficial to both you and your child. If you have any questions please contact us at 536 Main St.

About Island Kids

Island Kids offers sessions for children from newborns to 4 years old during the day and sessions for older children and adults after school and evenings. We are a non-profit organization that relies solely on the goodwill and professionalism of its instructors and volunteers to ensure a successful and effective program. We hope that open and healthy communication between us will help us all in this effort.
A limited number of full & partial scholarships are available.

Meeting times and places

Island Kids' classes are held in the community room at 536 Main Street, which is located behind the pizza parlor. Sessions are 45 minutes long, and begin promptly. We ask that participants be on time, as it is distracting to both the instructor and the children to have late arrivals. If nobody arrives by 15 minutes past the scheduled time, the instructor is free to post a sign canceling the class. It is hoped that registered children will attend most of the term's classes.

Adult participation

Parents and caregivers must remain with the children (with exception of the learning groups) and are expected to dress comfortably so they can participate fully in the sessions. This is an enrichment activity, not a school or day care service. The children benefit most when their caregiver is actively involved in their learning and socializing experiences. The adults may also be asked to assist the instructor in some activities. For after school sessions, we must stress that the parent or caregiver should not leave the vicinity of the room. Besides the necessity of having the child arrive and leave on time, our insurance coverage depends on your presence. Please do not bring any food, bottles or toys into the classroom area (except for the baby group).

Illness

We trust that if your child is ill, he or she will not attend the session. If an instructor is unable to take the session due to illness, or other unforeseen circumstances, then the utmost effort will be made to inform all participants before the scheduled session time. In any event, a notice will be posted on the room door. Whenever possible cancelled sessions due to instructor's absence will be made up during the make-up week at the end of the semester.

Session composition

The Executive Director and Board of Directors are responsible for the final decisions about session composition. The decision is based on a first come, first served basis at registration within each age group and within predetermined session sizes. We do attempt to provide sessions for as many children as possible. If a session you would like is full, please do put your child's name on a waiting list. If a space becomes available, or if we are able to create an additional session, names from the waiting list will be contacted.

Guest fee

If your child has a friend visiting, the friend is welcome to accompany your child to the session, at a guest fee of $10, payable by check to Island Kids. Guests must be of an appropriate age for the session that they are attending. A child may attend as a guest a maximum of two times. If you bring a child regularly, he or she should be registered.

Refund Policy

All refund requests must be made in writing to the Island Kids committee, by the second scheduled session. By the second session, no refunds will be given. Island Kids depends on a specific enrollment to meet expenses. A $5 administrative fee will be charged for each refund granted. There is no refund of the $20 registration fee. This fee covers the cost of processing the registration and the insurance. Art, Printing & Sculpture supplies are purchased at the beginning of the semester, so the supply fee cannot be refunded after the first session. Island Kids is not responsible for the refund of any part of the tuition making up for time lost as a result of emergencies, unforeseen circumstances or events beyond its control. Inquiries regarding Refund Policy should be made in writing to Island Kids, Inc.

Canceling Sessions

Island Kids reserves the right to cancel any session due to lack of registration. If other sessions are not available, tuition will be refunded. Island Kids reserves the right to remove a child from a session. Refund in this situation will be determined on an individual basis.
